Workin' Wednesday

I seem to have had one of those weeks.....several nights where sleep eluded me and it seemed the faster I went, the further behind I got.

I pieced this top for my MIL in December, she had stashed it in her closet for at least 10 years. She had cut it out with scissors and some of it was a little off. She had sewn a few parts of it and after I went ahead with the rest, I soon figured out, her 1/4 inch and my 1/4 inch were not the same. I am not sure if she even owns a rotary cutter or acrylic ruler. It is the Quilt in a Day Irish Chain by Eleanor Burns. And of course, none of the fabrics are available today so I had to be very careful in cutting the rest. In exchange she fixed the back of my DALE of Norway sweater where the yarns had pulled distorting the pattern. She is the MOST excellent knitter!!!! I have 2 and each daughter has already claimed the one she wants.

Anywhoo, then it went to the marvelous Peggy to be quilted, working her magic on the little bit of wonkiness and then I put the binding on. MIL wanted to at least sew down the binding so she could say that she had done something on the quilt. It will be in her spare room. Pink and green are her favorite colors.

A few more "Easy Street" done, a few ripped apart because I had a few four patches turned and fixed. Pic was before the "fix". Should be soon that I can show you the finish! If you are thinking about doing this mystery, you best get it now, Bonnie will be pulling it soon to include in her next book!

A few more pillowcases. Our guild will be finishing this project up in March.

Pulled out an UFO from a Mystery Mondays by Little Bits of This and That. Borders are cut and ready to go on. She has started a new Mystery Mondays and it is not too late to get going on it!

Not as much as I would have liked to accomplish but still something. What are you working on?

As Always,

Deb

Stash Report Week 8

Used this week:10.25
Used YTD: 49 yards

Added this week: 0 yards
Added YTD: 17 yards

Net:  -32 yards

Have not posted all week, Workin' Wednesday came and went and yet managed to get something done. As I said, lots of babies coming our way. I truly wish these people would have spread them out a little more. lol

Machine quilted using the walking foot. Not bad for a first try. I would do it again. This is old stash, Thimbleberries, not even a date on it!
Pieced back.

Complete with binding. I'm calling it "Puppy Love"

Second one, no name yet. This was a charm pack along with some solids I pulled and the border fabric was in my stash and I have no idea where it came from.  Tried the walking foot again with a wavy zigzag stitch. It is okay, I need to adjust the stitch a bit but will try it again.

Waiting for the birth(s) so I can add name and date to the label.

Swap project. (only the black counts as stash busting) We were sent 5 fat quarters by our partner and we have to use them to create a something adding anything we wanted to it. This little project takes some serious fabric usage. I was surprised at how much I used.
My partner wanted something to organize embroidery projects. The challenge for me was the neon colors but I think it turned out wonderful! I think this might fir the bill. The pattern is Classmate by Terry Atkinson. The only thing I changed is that I did not use a D-ring for the closure because I had this brass colored swivel hook and could not find a matching ring so I just made a fabric loop. It works.

And this is what I have left of the neon colors. I am deciding between a sewing machine cover and one of those organizers you set under your machine. What is left is enough to be an accent on either.

I will certainly use this pattern again.....this time for myself!

On the agenda for today....Daytona 500 and QuiltCam with Bonnie this afternoon. DH is out of town until Tuesday, hope some serious sewing is accomplished. I always feel guilty shutting myself up in the the sewing room when he is home. I try to have hand projects to do so I can be in the same room, thus the bindings on all three projects Friday and Saturday.

Check out the Stash Reports at Patchwork Times with Judy. Such wonderful inspiration!

Workin'Wednesday

Again it is Thursday....I know. Too tired last night to post.

Couple of things this week..............

Valentine day pillowcases for our bed.

and a few for donating to our guild.

A "Disney" princess top finished. I colored the center panel with crayons from a pic in a coloring book. I think it looks cute. I think this FQ pack has been in my stash for 5 years and it was about time I used it.

I also found 6 other blocks I colored with a vintage little girl's sports theme and am going to look for sashing fabric.

A finish! This is for my Goddaughter's first child. Just going in the wash now. It started from a charm pack won at a guild workshop.

The baby is due any day. Her name is Amara but I am not finishing the label until the birth, then I can add the date and name(in case, they change their minds).

I think it's so sweet and soft.

Just as a side note, I don't know if I would have wanted to know the sex of my babies. There are so few surprises in life but it sure makes it easier to plan. This one will get delivered to the hospital to bring her home in.

Now onto a couple of little boy quilts. There seem to be a lot of babies due soon in my life. I must really tell these people to spread them out a little more. lol

Deb

Workin' Wednesday

Yes, I know it is Thursday....

No time to post yesterday, alright, I was just lazy. There...you happy?

Not much going on. Working on a Terry Atkinson Pattern Classmate. I am in a FQ Swap and this is what I decided to make my Swapee. She wanted something to keep her embroidery stuff organized. I am sure hoping this works. It goes together beautifully although I got confused because I was using the FQ instead of yardage. It was not the fault of the pattern and once I had my fabrics cut, it was a snap. I love all her patterns and not just because she is a Minnesota designer. I loved them before I knew that but it does make them extra special.

Are these not just the brightest colors? They are even more neon in person. I would never have picked them so it is fun to work outside of my comfort zone!

And this is what I have left of 5 FQ's

Okay, there may be a few small pieces left, but I am saving those for a surprise for her. Shhhhh, don't tell!

As Always,

Deb

What can I say? It's not a plus!

QUILT SHOW

We went to a Quilt Show at a Garden Center. It was a new experience and I enjoyed it very much except for the fact that I did not wear proper shoes or in this case, boots! I never thought of the floor being cold, my feet were numb by the time we were done!

This row was all the same applique and all set very differently. Just goes to show you how you can make any pattern your own!

Again, these next 3, same pattern, very different fabrics! I thought I would remember the designer but the brain got too full!

A couple of the Twister patterns.......

These feathered stars were beautiful.

A quilt made from the Minnesota Quilt Hop fabric goes on my list. I think I have 4 of these charm packs tucked away.

And of course no Quilt Show would be complete without a little fabric therapy.

We headed to lunch and to thaw my feet. Chinese!!! So feeling full, warm and revitalized we headed to the Quilt Shops.

First up, All in Stitches. One of my favorites! The purchases made here.
These are Quilt Sticks. There are aslo videos on You Tube to watch.  My SIL gave me 2 for Christmas and I was not too sure about them until I used them. When you cut many strips the same size they are wonderful. They DO NOT slip at all! So today I picked up the 3 1/2" and the 5" because it seems many of my borders are those sizes. I would still like the 4" but these will do for now!

...and 5 1 yard cuts, the gray dot is actually much prettier than in the photo and I have had a thing for gray lately.

Our last stop was Fourth and Main, did a little more damage there.
These are what they call "6 Packs" - 6 -  2/3 yards cuts, all coordinated and you get a free pattern with each one. Of course, I already have the 6 patterns but can't resist them! It makes a 48" by 48" quilt with binding included.  It always adds a decent amount to stash and it is enough to do something with when the mood strikes!

A couple of clearance pieces, it is never to early to stockpile Christmas fabrics.

Wonderful day, wonderful friends and wonderful buys. What more could a girl ask for!

As Always,

Deb
